NEW GLASGOW – The Sobeys supermarket at the Aberdeen Business Centre is expanding.
“We are renovating and expanding the Aberdeen store,” confirmed company spokesperson Shaun Selig.
Fowler Construction is currently in the demolition phase at the former Convergys customer service centre, although Crombie REIT is managing the demolition to make room for the grocery store expansion.
Selig said on Tuesday, “We announced to the Aberdeen store and office teams this morning that the store will be expanded by 10,000 square feet and renovated to a Sobeys extra. Renovation timelines are not yet confirmed however planning is well underway.”
Sobeys extra is a new concept store with only one in Atlantic Canada to date in Tantallon, NS. However, renovations are underway in Clayton Park and Sobeys is building a new store in Saint John, NB, that will open in mid-summer as a Sobeys extra.
“There is more to come on what the store and expanded offer will look like and what the extra designation means for our customers,” Selig noted adding, those plans will be shared as plans are confirmed.
