Gryphons win fast pitch title


NORTH RIVER – The North Nova Gryphons have won the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation’s Division Girls’ fast pitch championship.

The Gryphons went unbeaten in four games, including a 15-2 victory over Avon View in the championship game, during the tournament hosted by Cobequid Education Centre and played in North River.

Playing in a pool, whose only other team was Avon View, North Nova edged Avon View 8-7 in their first game on Friday and downed their opponents 11-2 in the second game that day.

North Nova defeated Auburn 9-2 in their semifinal game to advance to the championship.
In Division I boys’ slo-pitch, North Nova went 1-2 at the championship won by a 3-1 score by Yarmouth over Amherst.

North Nova edged J.L. Illsley 22-21 in between losses by scores of 13-2 to Horton on Friday and 12-4 to Halifax West on Saturday.
