Police tight lipped on early morning search of Gatekeepers club

NEW GLASGOW – Police are remaining tight lipped with information on Sunday’s early morning incident at the Gatekeepers clubhouse.

Members of the Pictou County District RCMP with assistance from New Glasgow Regional Police Service conducted a search of the motorcycle group’s clubhouse on MacLean Street. It is part of an ongoing investigation by the Stellarton RCMP.

“The search is related to an ongoing investigation,” explains Const. Mark Skinner communications with RCMP Nova Scotia. “We can’t release any other information at this time.”

The section of MacLean Street between Archimedes and James streets was blocked off Sunday morning by police officers. They would not comment on the matter. An RCMP and NGRP officer standing guard on Archimedes were both seen holding rifles while an NGRP pickup truck and van barricaded both ends of the block. Four RCMP forensic trucks and two other NGRP vehicles were visible on scene as was a single motorcycle, while an RCMP cruiser was parked behind the building the clubhouse is located in.

The Gatekeepers are a motorcycle group with six known chapters across the province, one of which is in Musquodoboit Harbour, where the chapter held a party over the weekend.
As for whether the Gatekeepers are a faction of the Hell’s Angels, Skinner says, “I don’t want to create that link,” noting many media outlets have been making that connection.
Rumours have also been floating around that during the search, a number of body bags were removed from the building.

Skinner says, “They are just that, rumours that seem quite off base from the investigation.”

When asked if the investigation was in relation to drugs or weapons, he said he could not comment at this time.
