Pictou County District RCMP is investigating a fatal house fire that occurred Sunday.

On August 21, shortly after 3 a.m., RCMP were called to respond to a house fire on Barney’s River Road. When  officers and fire departments from Barney’s River, Linacy, Thorburn and New Glasgow arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Efforts to locate the 42-year-old male resident of the home were unsuccessful.  Later that day, the Provincial Fire Marshal requested the RCMP cadaver dog to attend.  The dog and handler arrived and after searching, human remains were located among the charred debris.

The remains have been turned over to the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s office to determine the cause of death and establish a positive identification.
