ELLSWORTH, Raymond Joseph – 74, of Lyons Brook, Pictou County, passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on November 11, 2016. Born January 6, 1942 in Miminegash, Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Leroy and Elizabeth (Gallant) Ellsworth. Ray was retired from Michelin Tire, Granton. He was an active member of his community as a referee, umpire, and a selfless and tireless volunteer at the Aberdeen Hospital, the Stella Maris Church as a hospitality minister and at Papa D’s Auto Repair. In his early years he enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, and also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his good friend Enos Gaudett. Anyone who knew Ray or spotted Ray in his red, white and blue coat, knew that he was an avid Montreal Canadiens super fan. A loyal and faithful friend of “Bill W” for 22 years, he will be greatly missed by the friends he made ‘One Day at A Time’. Ray passed away with his loving family by his side. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Doris (Munro); his son, Peter (Stephanie); his daughters, Ann and Nancy (Jay); son-in- law, Greg and daughter-in-law, Cathy; his much adored grandchildren, Peter, Chad, Jeff and Hannah; brothers and sisters, Melvin (Phyllis), Elenor (Ace), Myrtle, Mary (Muncy), Frances (Paul), Joey (Helen), Roy (Betty), Melvin (Sheila), Linda (Lorne); and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents; brothers, Willard, Johnny and Vincent; as well as a cherished granddaughter, Victoria, predeceased him. A church service will take place at 11 a.m. today, November 16, from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in Pictou, and a reception will follow at the Stella Maris Hall. Donations may be made in Ray’s memory to the Diabetes Association.
