STELLARTON — A temporary winter shelter could be opening soon.
Pictou County RCMP Const. Paul Vanderlaan said the shelter will operate in a place whose location will be announced once it is ready.
“So far we have started receiving donations for the operation of the shelter,” he said.
“We are very grateful for the donations thus far and there will be more to come in regards to who donated and as well as amounts.”
He said the group attempting to re-establish the local services has filed papers to achieve nonprofit status.
The proposed shelter already has a name, which will be released to the public once the paperwork is done, he said.
Members of the group recently visited a shelter in Truro to
learn how it is operated.
Members also addressed the Pictou County Council of Churches at its quarterly meeting on March 7 in Stellarton.
“Support from the council was received,” he confirmed.
He expressed thanks for the public support for the shelter.
The group has considered opening a winter shelter a priority since the previous one on Marsh Street
