PICTOU – Two teams from Trenton vied for the Pictou County Midget C hockey championship banner.

Trenton C1 defeated Trenton C2 7-6 in overtime to capture the banner on Sunday at Hector Arena.

Riley Sheehan wiped out a 6-4 deficit for Trenton C1 by scoring two goals 15 seconds apart with his team’s net empty, and Cale MacDonald notched the winning goal with 1:10 gone in overtime to complete the comeback.

Carter Hatfield, Dawson Fraser, Drew Murphy and Liam Kennedy also scored for Trenton C1.

The tournament featured two teams each from Trenton and Westville and the host Pictou Maripacs.

Trenton C2 ousted the Maripacs from contention on Saturday with a 10-0 victory led by Jacob Roper’s three goals and two more by Thomas Lennon.

The two Trenton teams met in the preliminary round and tied 3-3.

Ian MacDonald, Angus Roy and Isaac MacDonald scored for Trenton C2, while Kennedy scored twice and Hatfield once for Trenton C1.

John Winsor, Zachary Jones, Clark Robertson, Isaac MacDonald and Muin Herney also scored.

Kaleb Elms collected the shutout.

John Musick, Cole MacDougall and Rylan Rafuse scored for Pictou in a 3-0 victory over Westville Blue.

The tournament opened on Friday when the Maripacs tied Trenton C1 3-3 on goals by Kirkland Mansour, Eddie Roberts and Evan MacCarthy.

Jarred Francis assisted on Kennedy’s two goals and a single goal by Dylan Francis.

Baillie Langille recorded three goals and Roberts notched a pair as Pictou downed Westville White 7-3. Josh Graham and Ethan Dewer also scored.

Braydon MacDonald, Ewen Cameron and Luke Fortune replied for Westville.

Winsor, Robertson, Roy, Lennon, Roper, Broden DeCoff and Michael Trefry scored in Trenton C2’s 7-2 victory over Westville Blue. Ben Fortune and Christian MacLeod scored for the Miners.

MacLeod’s hat trick led Westville Blue to a 4-3 victory over Westville White. Brendon MacLean also scored.

Braydon MacDonald’s goal and assist led the Blue team.

In two other games on Sunday, Roper and Mark Cormier scored three goals each and Ryan Farrell and Isaac MacDonald each added two goals in Trenton C2’s 13-4 win over Westville White.

Sheehan, Dylan Francis, Moss, Logan Taylor and Dominic Raniowski scored in Trenton C1’s 5-2 victory over Westville Blue.

MacLeod and Johnny Spears connected for the Miners.
