Pacs win tourney in shootout

THORBURN — The Pictou Maripacs captured the Aaron Blackwood/Audrey McDonald Memorial Bantam C minor hockey tournament in exciting fashion on Sunday in Thorburn.

Goals by Brennan Dalton and Cooper McNamara during a shootout lifted the Maripacs to a 2-1 victory over the Eastern Shore Schooners in the championship game at the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Rink.

Ethan MacDonald scored in regulation time for the Maripacs, who handed the Schooners their first loss of the tournament.

The Schooners shut out the Maripacs 3-0 earlier on Sunday during the preliminary round.

Pictou won its other games, starting on Friday with a 3-1 victory over the Westville Miners on goals by Justin Leduc, Ty Briand and Michael Wallace.

Chapman, Leduc, Briand and Cooper McNamara scored on Saturday in Pictou’s 4-2 victory over the host Thorburn Golden Hawks. Robert Walsh scored both Thorburn goals.

Wallace scored twice and Chapman, Briand, McNamara, Leduc and Kennan Murray tallied once each on Sunday as the Maripacs downed the Tatamagouche Titans 7-1.

The Schooners scored three straight goals to snap a 5-5 tie en route to an 8-5 victory over the Hawks.

Jake MacLean scored twice for the Hawks, while Chase Roberts, Mason Darroch and Walsh also scored.

The Hawks won their other games, including a 2-1 decision against the Miners on goals by MacLean and Roberts. Cole Green answered for Westville.

Walsh, Roberts, Camden MacDonald and Justin MacDonald scored for the Hawks in their 4-3 victory over the Titans. Jared Langille scored all three goals for the Titans.

Langille fired four goals in the Titans’ 7-3 triumph against the Miners. Ethan Elms scored twice and Robie Cameron once for the Miners.

Elms, Cameron and Owen Brophy scored in the Miners’ 4-3 setback against the Schooners.
