The Pictou County Peewee AA Crushers swept two games from the host Yarmouth Mariners last weekend by scores of 4-1 and 7-1 in Mainland Peewee AA Hockey League action.
The results leave the Crushers in second place, just one point behind the first-place Mariners with five games in hand in the eight-team league standings.
Scoring for the Crushers in the first game on Saturday were Brennan Hood and John K Martin with two goals apiece. Landon Steele had three assists, Wyatt Spence had two and Cole Thompson, Caden Campbell and Gage Connors collected one each.
On Sunday Spence fired four goals, while the Crushers scored on the opening play and went on to hammer the Mariners.
Martin added a goal and five assists, while Nichol and Mac Wallace also scored.
Nichol added three assists, Ben Marchand recorded two assists and singles assists came from Spence, Connors and Clint MacLaughlin.
The Crushers goaltending tandem of Cole Battist and Jacob MacLeod both had a strong weekend between the pipes holding the Mariners to one goal each.
With the win the Crushers have improved to 8-1-2 tallying for 18 points.
The Crushers have a home-and-home series this weekend with the Antigonish Bulldogs. They will be at home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre and in Antigonish on Sunday at noon at the Antigonish Arena.
