On Wednesday December 27, 2017 at approximately 2 p.m., New Glasgow Fire Department, New Glasgow Regional Police, along with the Trenton and Stellarton Fire Departments, Emergency Health Services, New Glasgow Public Works, Nova Scotia Power and RCMP Units responded to a residential structure fire on Summer Street New Glasgow.

East River Road was closed for approximately one hour in both directions as fire crews required the use of fire hoses across East River Road. Pine Street and Summer Street were also closed for over an hour. The fire completely destroyed the two-storey wood frame residence.

No one was injured as a result of the fire and no one was in the house at the time of the fire, although two adult brothers have been displaced.

They’re staying with a relative for now and will meet Thursday with disaster volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross for emergency aid like purchases of clothing and food.

Preliminary investigation has determined that the fire is non-suspicious.

New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate.

Dec 27- A fire at a house on Summer Street had East River Road blocked for part of the day with emergency vehicles onsite for the blaze.

East River Road is now accessible to the public, although Pine and Summer Streets will remain closed until the situation is resolved.
