Local teams ousted from tourney

BEDFORD – Neither the Pictou County Wear Well Bombers nor the Weeks Major Midgets were able to advance past Saturday at the 2018 Icejam hockey tournament that ended on Sunday.

The Bombers opened on Wednesday with a 4-2 loss against the Kennebacasis Valley Kings from New Brunswick.

Blaise MacDonald scored for the Bombers in the first period and Landon Sim gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead through two periods before the Kings rallied with three straight goals in the third period.

Matt Carson’s goal with 1:47 left in the third period lifted the Bombers to a 4-3 victory over the Northern Blackhawks on Thursday.

Ryan Green’s two goals gave the Bombers a 2-0 lead through one period, while Iian Horton also scored.

The Bombers tied the Central Attack 2-2 on goals by Green and Cale MacLaughlin on Friday.

They were eliminated from further play after a 2-0 loss to the Gulls.

Marc Aucoin scored twice as the Major Midgets opened last Wednesday with a 4-3 victory over Kensington, P.E.I.  Roowan Sears and Carson Lanceleve, with what proved to be the winner, also scored.

Blake Kontuk scored for the Major Midgets in a 2-1 loss to the Northern Moose on Thursday.

Sears and Hunter Martin scored for the Major Midgets in a 2-2 tie with the Saint John Vitos on Friday.

Mason Hawley scored for the Major Midgets on Saturday in a 3-1 loss to the Steele Subaru Major Midgets.
