ANTIGONISH – The Pictou County Crushers split their two Mainland Peewee AA Hockey League games with the Antigonish Bulldogs last weekend, salvaging the split with an 8-5 victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday in Antigonish.
The Bulldogs defeated the Crushers 3-1 on Saturday in their league game at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. Scoring the Crushers lone goal was Landon Steele with the assist going to Mac Wallace.
In Antigonish, Zach MacInnis and Steele had two goals apiece with singles coming from Wallace, Gage Connors, Levon Walst and Ben Marchand.
Steele added three assists, while Wallace, Walst, Marchand and Blake MacLennan had two each. Singles came from Kayden Moulasion and Caden Campbell.
The Crushers have two games this weekend against the Cumberland Ramblers.
The teams will meet on Saturday in Amherst and on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at the Wellness Centre.
The Crushers are in first place, two points ahead of the Ramblers in the eight-team league standings.
The Peewee AAA Crushers lost a 4-2 decision against the Truro Bearcats on Saturday. They are in fourth place in their five-team league standings.
Pictou County has two teams in the Midget A Division.
Pictou County White leads the standings 25 points, two more than Cumberland County. Pictou County Red is in fourth place.
Pictou County White followed a 4-2 win over Pictou County Red on January 13 with a 5-2 victory over the West Colchester Cobras on Friday.
Pictou County Red shut out the Bulldogs 2-0 on Saturday after suffering an 11-1 drubbing at the hands of the Cumberland Ramblers.
The Crushers are fifth in the Bantam AA Division and tied for second in the Bantam A Division.
The Bantam A Crushers defeated the visiting Bulldogs 3-1 on Saturday and won 3-1 in Antigonish on Sunday.
