Trenton rink Hockeyville entry

TRENTON – Local hockey fans are being encouraged to join the campaign to support the Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre’s bid for top honours in this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest.

It’s an opportunity for the facility to win a $250,000 renovation grant through Kraft Hockeyville.

Voters can go to krafthockeyville.ca, write a brief note, send a photo and share their memories of the Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre, and how important it is for the citizens of Trenton and surrounding communities.

Kraft Hockeyville is an annual competition sponsored by Kraft Foods, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association and provides communities with the opportunity to compete to demonstrate their commitment to the sport of ice hockey.

This year, four finalist communities will be selected, two from the East and two from the West, who have accumulated enough support to advance.

Canadians at least 13 years of age decide the winner.

So far, 17 notes, nine photos and five stories have been shared in support of the rink on a rally meter set up for each bidding facility across the country.

O’Leary, P.E.I. was last year’s overall winner.

Arenas placing second third and fourth in the contest each receive $25,000.

Submissions for the event started on January 1 and will end on February 11.

Judging is done until March 16, and the four finalists will be announced on March 17.

Final voting is from noon ET on March 30 to8:30 p.m. ET on March 31.
