PICTOU — Optimism is building that organizers of the Pictou Curl for Canada can raise at least as much as last year.
The 2018 edition at the New Caledonian Curling Club will take place on Friday, with the first draw at 6 p.m. and additional draws every four hours.
The event is known for its dedication to raising funds for cancer research, as well as the revelry on and off the ice, the off-beat costumes some team members wear and the dynamic musical entertain that is offered all evening.
“The public is encouraged to drop in and help us celebrate the event,” said George Cameron who, with Cathy LeBlanc, is among organizers of the event. “Last year’s event raised a total of $27,345.95 and was our best year ever.”
At this point 24 teams are registered and space is available for several more teams.
“The event would not be possible without the support of community members and businesses which provide support through pledges and donations of prizes and food for our participants,” Cameron said.
