STELLARTON — Kids will have a chance to be kings and queens of the castle at the Museum of Industry.

The museum is offering Once Upon a Castle medieval adventure from March 10 to 18 during this year’s March Break. Times are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Curtis Botham, a graduate from NSCAD University (formerly the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design), has been busy preparing the elements for the adventure. He has been painting a stone likeness over blackened walls with window openings on two levels to prepare the indoor fun.

“I also did a backdrop for a dragon enclosure,” he said.

Thor the Bearded Dragon will be a special guest, along with Hughie the Crane that kids aged six and under can operate during the museum tour. There will also be an imaginary tea with Raggedy Ann and Andy.

Kids will be able to build castle walls with wooden blocks so they can knock them down again with a catapult. They can dress as a lord, lady or jester and act out ancient skits in costume.

They can enact an escape from a dungeon maze, practise jousting skills and mount a quest for treasures throughout the museum.

The jousting and swordplay is done with foam swords and lances.
