STELLARTON – Twelve teams from across the Maritimes converged last weekend on the William M. Sobey Indoor Sports Complex in Stellarton for the second annual “Surf and Turf” Ultimate Frisbee tournament.
Organizer Amanda Hill said the event went well and produced high-quality competition.
More than 120 players, including some of the best in Atlantic Canada who recently won Gold at the Canadian Championships, took part in the event.
The teams included two from the host Pictou County Ultimate Club.
Medals were presented to the top three teams.
Gold medals were presented to the Chicago DEERS from Halifax, while silver medalists were Prize Pigs from Halifax) and bronze went to the Dalhousie Kings Ultimate Team from Halifax.
“The Pictou County competitive touring team, named Brown Sauce after our legendary pizza, came sixth and had a very competitive and impressive showing at the tournament,” Hill said.
Tournament Director was Ali Hayward on behalf of Pictou County Ultimate.
The local athletes train regularly at the Sobey complex.
