STELLARTON — Two local soccer players are being saluted for their achievements.

Highland Football Club member Logan Bennett finished the 2017-18 winter soccer season as the top scorer among Under-15 AA boys in Nova Scotia.

“Logan is a great example of a player who comes to training and games with a positive attitude,” U-15 boys’ head coach Aaron Hayne said. “He is a great player to work with and enjoys a great challenge. This was shown in the winter season as he led the U-15 AA league in scoring.”

Bennett just turned 15 and has been playing soccer since he was six.

“I like meeting new friends and the skills involved,” he said. “I want to keep playing as long as I can.”

Bennett is a midfielder who plays varsity soccer summer and winter.

“It’s a lot of soccer but I like it,” he said. “Being a midfielder means a lot of running, which I’m good at.”

Nadia Lawand plays Under-15 AA girls soccer and is being celebrated for her determination. She began playing with Northern Nova United Soccer Club but later joined the Highland Football Club (HFC). Her story is one of perseverance and her stature as a strong defensive player on a successful team.

Soccer is Lawand’s main sport and she has dedicated herself to becoming fit and living healthy. Lawand, 14, has been playing since she was two. She is in Grade 8 and has been playing soccer at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School.

“I like being active and also like how I get to meet new friends through soccer,” she said.
