MOUNT WILLIAM — Eagles Chance has opened its driving range for the 2018 season.
Brian Affleck, who owns and operates the Eagles Chance Par 3 Course and Driving Range, said the driving range is open and the Par 3 course will be soon.
The driving range opened last Thursday with golfers’ hours from 1 to 7 p.m. to the end of April, weather permitting.
“We were open Saturday and Sunday and quite a few people came out,” Affleck said. “We were very busy Thursday.”
The club usually opens at 8 a.m. and closes at dusk but Affleck said the crew needs more time to hand-pick golf balls in the wet low spots where they can only drive machines in the early morning when the ground is frozen hard.
“It will be better once we get some heat,” Affleck said.
Maintenance and repairs on the Par 3 has delayed its opening until April 28, he said.
Affleck has conducted golf lessons for young people, some of whom have been introduced to the game and other returning golfers.
Meanwhile, Abercrombie Country Club’s tentative season opening date has been deferred to April 27. The club was hoping to open last weekend.
Glen Lovat Golf Club did not indicate by press time when it may open.
