Shortly after 10 p.m. on May 4, RCMP responded to a report of shoplifting at a business in Pictou.
When police arrived at the scene they learned the suspect fled the area in a vehicle. Later that evening, the suspect was located when RCMP responded to a complaint of a single motor vehicle collision in the Pine Tree area. At the scene, police noted that the vehicle involved in the collision, a 2000 Jaguar S-Type, was stolen from BC, and the driver was the subject of 12 warrants of arrest from across Canada.
Gordon John Doughty, 61, of Stratford, PEI was arrested without incident and faces charges of Theft Under $5000, Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000 and several Motor Vehicle Act offences related to the collision in Pine Tree.
He was also arrested on the 12 outstanding warrants of arrest, which are in relation to over 30 charges of a similar nature, dating back to 2013 from PEI, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC.
Doughty has been remanded in custody and will be appearing in Pictou Provincial Court today.
The investigation is ongoing.
