Wrapping up a fundraiser

The Pictou County East Food Bank in New Glasgow held its third and possibly last jewelry and scarf sale fundraiser Friday evening and Saturday morning.

The fundraiser sees the money raised go toward buying necessities and more food for the food bank that is located on Granville Street.

The successful fundraiser began after some of the volunteers of the organization were talking about how they all seem to have jewelry that they don’t wear anymore but hate to throw out because it is still in good shape. The same sentiment was added about scarves.

“People are incredibly generous with what they donated,” said Jeanne Coppillie, a food bank volunteer. In previous years the fundraiser managed to bring in just short of $1,000 for the organization.

“I think they really enjoy it,” said Coppillie about the sale patrons.

The fundraiser, held at the food bank building, also doubled as a way to make people more aware of its presence and the location of the building.

If you didn’t make it to the sale, Coppillie added that they are always accepting donations to the food bank at any time and items such as cereal and chunky soup are always needed. The food bank is open for patrons Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
