Give some credit for convictions

To the Editor:

I read with interest the Letter To The Editor under the caption: “Send A Message To The Vocal Few”. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion and to freely express it on this or any other topic in this great country of ours.

That being the case, I will offer my opinion on the above noted letter, penned by Graham Johnston. It is an amazement to me that, with all of the information that is available, anyone can be so ill-informed about the Northern Pulp and the issues/concerns relating to the proposed pumping effluent into the Northumberland Strait.

It is also an amazement that Mr. Johnston would attempt to discredit Karla MacFarlane for having the courage of her convictions, and the intestinal fortitude to get off the fence and stand for what she believes. To accuse her of “siding with her friends” rather than give her credit for her stand to protect the environment and an important industry, seems entirely inappropriate, unfair and unwarranted.
