NEW GLASGOW – Awards were presented in four categories last Thursday at Glasgow Square in conjunction with the Johnny Miles Running Event Weekend.
Five people were inducted into the Glenn Big Dog Chenell Runners Hall of Fame: Fred MacDonald, Peter Kittelson, Brenda Hetherington-Henshaw, Joe Pound and Lloyd Northen.
The awards are presented in memory of Glenn Chenell, who was a highly regarded distance runner and mentor for distance runners. Chenell also compiled extensive information on his and others’ running training and competitions.
Chenell’s wife Liz Chenell received the Johnny Miles Williston Character Award that is presented “to an individual who makes a significant contribution to the Johnny Miles Running Event Weekend year after year.”
Other awards included the Danny MacLeod Inspirational Award presented this year to Wanda McKenna and Luke Holley.
The award is presented to an individual who overcomes a significant life challenge to participate in Johnny Miles Running Event Weekend event and helps to inspire others.
Brad MacDougall, Aulayne Jeans and Pat Craig received the Verna Van Bommel Community award on behalf of the Aberdeen Hospital medical staff. The award is presented to an individual who makes a significant contribution to their community either by volunteering or by role modeling an active, healthy lifestyle.
