PICTOU – Bruce Guthro has been hosting iconic and talented musicians at his songwriter circles for a dozen years, even hosting a nationally televised CBC series.

On Tuesday, July 3 he will invite audience members into the intimate setting of the deCoste Performing Arts Centre where his three, equally talented guest writers will gather on a raised stage with the audience in a circle around them to create the essence of just being at home in their living room. Each will share lots of laughs as they tell of the stories and their songs and how they came to be, which makes for a fun and entertaining evening.

Guthro has been captivating audiences around the world with his honest, straight-to-the-heart songwriting and live performances that are as engaging and personable as the man himself.

The Cape Bretoner has a special connection to Pictou County, with the idea for his song “Ivey’s Wall” being sparked by learning of the wall near the rail cars in Trenton that young boys hung out on talking about life and trying to solve their problems while he was on his way to his uncle Ivey’s funeral.

Each performance is always unique as Guthro invites a number of talented individuals with whom he’s connected with over the years, and this time will be no different.

Joining him in the circle will be Lennie Gallant, a native of neighbouring P.E.I., who is a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter in his own right with 11 albums which have won him multiple nominations and wins at the JUNOs and ECMAs.

As the leader, and only original member of April Wine since its inception in 1969, Myles Goodwyn’s talents as a singer, guitarist and writer/producer have been the back bone to the classic rock group’s unique sound.

Rounding out the musically gifted group is Dave Carroll, who as part of the Sons of Maxwell pair, uses real life experiences to craft songs like “United Breaks Guitars” or “Everyday Heroes” that have resonated with audiences on a global level.

The Songwriters Circles have been selling out over the years and this one is expected to be no different. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m.
