NEW GLASGOW – The music has been booked, the fountain freshly painted, flower baskets hung and a menu of sandwiches, sweets and lemonade is planned as preparations for the 48th annual Glen Haven Manor Festival of the Tartans Garden Party are now in full swing.
The special event, which is for the Glen Haven residents and their families, but also open to the public, will take place on Friday, July 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. on the front lawn of Glen Haven, 739 East River Road.
Singer/songwriter Lacey Morrell-Pierre, raised in Stellarton and part of a large musical family will kick of the performances with a rousing rendition of O Canada, followed by a selection of tunes. Also featured will be Pictou County’s premier story teller, singer/songwriter John Spyder MacDonald; Jeannie Cameron, Dawn Gorman and Merton Arbuckle from the popular folk group, Inner Voice; Brenda MacKay Highland dancers; talented fiddler Haley MacLeod from New Glasgow and the charming, singing duo of Kelsey MacDonald and Chelsey Joudrie who are also members of the Glen Haven Recreation team. The Clan Thompson Pipe Band, under the direction of Pipe Major Scott Williams, Pipe Sergeant Madelyn Evans-Langlois, drumming instructor Ray Halliday, and lead drummer Judy MacMullin-Smith is a Garden Party tradition and will be on hand again this summer. Guests can expect to hear a wide selection of music, from lilting Scottish aires and rousing jigs, to timeless pop classics, to stirring Celtic ballads, to original East Coast songs.
“We are very much looking forward to our annual Garden Party as it is a tradition our residents look forward to and love,” says CEO Lisa M. Smith.
“The Garden Party is an opportunity to gather with families, friends and neighbours in a beautiful outdoor setting and to be entertained by the exceptional talent Pictou County has to offer. We are proud to support the Festival of the Tartans as one of Pictou County’s and Nova Scotia’s long-standing festivals and to showcase local entertainers. Our team always does a great job in hosting and organizing the Garden Party and we take great pride in providing it for the residents and their families.
“We also welcome members from across Pictou County, our partners and municipalities to join us for what promises to be another great occasion. We are also very excited about the scope and depth of the entertainment line-up our creative director Jon Raven Visser has organized for this year’s event. There will be a remarkable combination of music while the skirl of the pipes and the swirl of kilts are sure to put us in the spirit for the Festival.”
