New 4-H barn will benefit generations of local youth

Opinion

To the Editor:

We will soon be celebrating the official opening of the new 4-H Legacy Building which will be a tremendous addition to the Pictou North-Colchester Exhibition grounds and the community.

The new barn design will provide a larger space for exhibits as well as a kitchen area that will allow the 4-H Council to comply with current food safety regulations. There will also be two washrooms, a separate storage facility, and many other improvements compared to the previous building.

4-H and its motto — “Learn to do by doing” — helps our young people nurture confidence, positive self-identity, self-esteem and a sense of achievement. With these, and many other skills they learn, young 4-Hers become caring and contributing leaders who are committed to positively impacting their communities.

Without the tremendous fundraising effort by Pictou County 4-H, the financial contributions of local citizens and businesses, as well as the in-kind donations of businesses which donated labour and equipment, this building would not be built today. The 4-Hers of today, and the leaders of tomorrow, will be forever grateful for all the hard work, dedication, and time put towards completing the 4-H Legacy Building. Thank you.
