PICTOU — A local fishery supplier has begun breaking ground at its new location.

Vernon D’Eon Fishing Supplies Ltd. started ground preparations for its new home on what is called ‘Lot A’ beside the Pictou Rotary.

D’Eon’s general manager Lloyd D’Eon said he’s looking forward to moving into the new 50 x 100 retail outlet but could not say how long construction will take and if the structure can be closed in before winter.

“A new building is going up but I can’t say when it will be ready,” he said. “It will be a much nicer store.”

Town council approved the sale of the property earlier this year to the company for $100,000, plus the transfer of a parcel of land the town acquired from the purchaser on Pine Tree Road.

The West Pubnico-based company first located in Pictou in 1996. It has six other outlets in Nova Scotia and another one in Souris, P.E.I.

It has been operating in Lyons Brook since a fire destroyed its previous location on Water Street in Pictou’s downtown.
