The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets will host the Steele Subaru Major Midgets of Dartmouth on Sunday after winning one of three games last weekend in Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League action.
The game on Sunday will start at noon at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
Pictou County split its two games with the Cape Breton West Islanders, losing 1-0 in Port Hood on Thursday before posting a 2-1 triumph on Sunday at the Wellness Centre.
Jacob Melanson scored one goal and assisted on the other by Ryan Green in the third period to lift Pictou County to its win on Sunday after the Isles took a 1-0 lead in the second period. Merle Putnam also drew an assist.
The Islanders outshot Pictou County 38-34.
The Islanders scored the only goal they needed late in the third period in Port Hood, while outshooting Pictou County 31-28.
Pictou County’s other game resulted in a 7-5 loss against the Valley Wildcats on Saturday in Berwick.
Melanson scored twice for Pictou County, who led 4-2 after two periods. However, the Wildcats roared past Pictou County with five goals in the third period, with the fifth goal scored with 15 seconds left and Pictou County’s net empty.
Evan Tilley, Devin Megher and Green added Pictou County’s other goals.
Each team took 30 shots, but the Wildcats outshot Pictou County 14-7 in the third period.
