New Glasgow tree lighting on Friday

Arts & Entertainment Community Election

The Christmas season is quickly approaching and the Town of New Glasgow has an exciting list of events to celebrate this holiday season.

It all starts with the New Glasgow Christmas Tree/Holiday Light Up taking place at Glasgow Square Theatre on Friday  at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature live entertainment by the Pictou County Brass & Reed band, soloist Rebecca DeCoste, and students from Miss Carla’s Dance Studio.  Santa Claus will be making a visit and will be collecting letters from the children to take back to the North Pole and then the evening will finish off with the count down to the official lighting of the Town Tree.

“Our Council and staff look forward to hosting and supporting Christmas events each holiday season,” says Mayor Nancy Dicks.

On Saturday,  the New Glasgow Fire & Rescue Santa Claus Parade will start at 5:30 p.m. with a new starting point of 410 Granville Street. The parade committee is still accepting entry forms and can be picked up at town hall until Friday. For additional information you can contact Paula Munro-Fraser at 902-759-7483.

“We have many more exciting events planned this holiday season with the Christmas Lights Bus Tour / Christmas with the Carmichael’s & Stewart’s on December 13, Christmas Caroling on December 20, Christmas at the Square featuring local tenor Marcel d’Entremont on December 20 and of course it would not be Christmas without A Christmas Serenade with Doris Mason and Friends on Dec 22,” said Paula Irving, Program, Culture & Events manager.

A new holiday event, Trivia Night and Dance Party, will feature Gene Mills with his ever mind bending trivia and fantastic dance music on December 27 at 8 p.m. Gather your teams of eight or register as an individual as you are not going to want to miss this fun evening. What a great way to spend an evening with friends and family while supporting local charity Pictou County East Food Bank. Entry is $10 per person and for more information or to register call 902-752-4800.
