Jr. A Crushers defeat Bearcats, Wildcats

Sports

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers faced this week’s MHL schedule with some momentum from two big wins last week.

The Crushers opened this week’s schedule by hosting the Amherst Ramblers in a rare Monday fixture at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. They next host the St. Stephen Aces on Thursday before visiting the Ramblers on Saturday.

Dylan Riley scored three goals as the Crushers blanked the host Valley Wildcats on Saturday in Berwick. They moved four points ahead of the Wildcats to secure a firmer grip on fifth place in the South Division standings.

Jaden Mason, Kevin Mason and Darren Dachyshyn also scored for the Crushers, who outshot the Wildcats 31-17, including 8-1 in the third period.

Jacob Hickey recorded three assists, while Matthew Normore collected the shutout.

The win followed the Crushers’ 4-1 home-ice victory over the Truro Bearcats last Thursday.

Kevin Mason’s second goal of the game in the second period gave the Crushers a 2-1 lead, while Aleck Forcier and Evan Gallant got their other goals in the third period.

The Crushers outshot Truro 31-29.

It’s the first time this season that the Crushers have put two wins together.
