A new year is bringing winds of change – for the better – to Pictou.
The Pictou Harbour Golf Club has been sold; the conditions of the sale were met Thursday.
Graham Hutchinson with Tradewinds Realty Inc. confirmed the sale with The Advocate today.
Hutchinson says the new owners are from the United States, originally from Poland, and have a hotel business in both the U.S. and Poland.
“They have plans of opening a leisure complex,” on the golf course site, Hutchinson says. The plan is to build a 20-room, five-star hotel with banquet hall, indoor pool and RV park for 150 camp sites as well as approximately 15 cottages.
“It’s very exciting for the town,” Hutchinson says. “It will mean jobs.” But the number of jobs it will create is still unclear.
Keeping mum on the name of the owners until all of the conditions are met in the spring, Hutchinson did say the new owners would like to keep the original club house, if possible, and they have committed to being sympathetic to the environment and the surrounding property owners.
The property was listed for an asking price of $499,000 and is on Viewpoint’s website as being sold for $450,000.
Hutchinson’s description of the property made it attractive to buyers: “A superb oceanfront acreage in historic Pictou. Previously the rolling landscape of Pictou Harbour Golf Club this wonderful land would be ideal for an oceanfront development or perhaps restoration of the golf club itself, park or campground. The Clubhouse could also be converted into a residence, accommodation, storage, Air B&B or store in this busy tourist area. A large shed could also house materials whilst you build. Outstanding ocean views from all elevations of this 34 acre parcel that could likely be subdivided into 10 or more lots. With over 1700 ft. of shoreline …”
It is not yet known if there will continue to be a golf course component on the property.
The property has been for sale for several years.
