NEW GLASGOW — Discussion has arisen among local civic leaders over the future of the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame.
Barry Trenholm, who has volunteered for years as the Hall of Fame’s main host and curator, made a presentation last week to the Mayors and Warden meeting with regard to his future involvement and its long-term viability.
“I did want to meet with them,” Trenholm said. “It’s getting to be too much. I hope I can back off a little bit.”
Mayor Jim Ryan of Pictou, who chairs the mayors and warden committee and the Pictou County Shared Services Authority, said Trenholm asked the committee to consider “any ideas that might help in sustaining the Hall of Fame or, if absolutely necessary, options for storage space should it be necessary to close.”
“Barry expressed frustration and disappointment with an inability to attract a suitable number of volunteers to continue to support the operation of the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame in its’ current format,” Ryan said. “There was consensus among the mayors and warden that it was important to continue to celebrate this important part of Pictou County heritage and we would discuss options for display of artifacts in an alternate format.”
