Northern Pulp asks for extension

Northern Pulp announced today, during a press conference in Halifax, that it is seeking an extension on the deadline to close its Boat Harbour facility, as outlined in Boat Harbour Act passed in 2015, so the company can have ample time to build a new effluent treatment facility first.

Members of Pictou Landing First Nation say they’ve waited long enough, and expect the company to meet the January 31, 2020 deadline.

Durney Nicholas, of Pictou Landing First Nation, commented: “They lied to us the first day, and they’re probably still lying,” referring to his faith in the company, Northern Pulp (of which he has little).
