There is not much left now of the former John Brother MacDonald Stadium in New Glasgow.
Demolition of the former rink began last week with the gutting of the inside and the removal of the external steel.
The Stadium was once home to the Weeks Crushers before that team’s move to the Pictou County Wellness Centre. It was the host location for the Air Canada Cup in 1997 and the 2001 World Under 17 Hockey Championships (co-hosted with Truro). In May 2008, it hosted the Fred Page Cup, the Eastern Canadian Junior A Championship tournament.
The facility was renamed John Brother MacDonald Stadium after the long-time local coach and gym teacher at New Glasgow High School died in 2004.
The property was purchased by P.Q. Properties and will be the new location of adult housing.
