PICTOU – The 2019 Adam Larade-Teresa Gallant Memorial hockey tournament has begun in Pictou.
The host Pictou Maripacs are among 16 teams in four pools playing in the tournament that started on Friday and ends on Sunday at the Hector Arena.
The Maripacs were on the ice on Friday following a ceremonial puck drop to officially open the tournament.
Pictou will test the Dartmouth Sharks in the first game on Saturday at 8 a.m., while other games involving local teams include Westville and the Storm at 11 a.m., New Glasgow and the Sharks at noon, Thorburn and the Dartmouth Huskies at 2 p.m. New Glasgow and Chebucto Lightning at 5 p.m., Westville and East Hants at 6 p.m., Thorburn and Acadia at 7 p.m. and Trenton and Brookfield at 8 p.m.
The top teams from each of the four pools will advance to semifinal games at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The winners of those two games will contest the tournament championship at noon.
Pictou opened the tournament with a 5-1 victory over New Glasgow, while Stellarton followed with a 12-1 win over Thorburn, Trenton edged Eastern Shore 3-2, East Hants topped the Chebucto Storm 4-2 and TASA defeated Brookfield 5-1.
