STELLARTON – Four adults escaped unharmed but lost most belongings in an overnight fire that caused extensively damage including most of the roof collapsing on an older two-storey duplex here.

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have arranged emergency lodging through the weekend plus food, winter clothing purchases and other basics for a woman and man from one unit, and clothing and food for a couple from the other unit, who are staying with friends for now.

The fire was reported around 1 a.m. Feb. 9 at 87 and 89 Acadia Avenue. Stellarton firefighters were on scene for several hours but were called back around 6 a.m. to deal with additional flare-ups.
