COLE HARBOUR – The Pictou County Peewee AAA Crushers captured the championship banner in their division this week during in the 37th annual Joe Lamontagne Memorial minor hockey tournament.
Kaden Smith scored both Crusher goals with assists going to Moser and Kingsley Austin in their 2-1 victory over the East Hants Penguins on Monday in the championship game.
Alex Palmer recorded the win in the Crushers’ goal.
Smith and Wyatt Spence each scored twice as the Crushers started action last Saturday against the Dartmouth Whalers by winning 4-2.
Cade Moser and Amias Crossman each recorded two assists and Dominac MacKenzie had a single helper. Palmer was in the net for the win.
The Crushers followed later on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to the Penguins.
The Crushers needed a win on Sunday against the EDZA East Blues from New Brunswick to move on in the tournament and managed a 2-1 victory on goals by Spence and Crossman.
Levon Walst had two assists and Corbin MacDonnell added one.
Alex Palmer got the win.
The Crushers advanced to a semifinal match with the Yarmouth Mariners and beat the Mariners 5-3 on goals by Caden Campbell, Spence, Smith, Keegan Dalton and Clint MacLaughlin.
Landon Steele collected two assists, while MacDonell, Owen Conrad, MacLaughlin, MacKenzie and Smith added one each.
Crushers’ goaltender Jorja Burrows recorded the win.
The Crushers open their part in the Nova Scotia Peewee AAA championship in Halifax this Thursday at 2 p.m. against the TASA Ducks.
The tournament ends on Sunday.
