CLARENVILLE, N.L. — The Fundy-Highland Selects came home with silver medals from the Atlantic Bantam AAA female hockey championship in Clarenville, N.L.The East Bantam Rockets from New Brunswick edged the Selects 2-1 in overtime in the gold medal game in the final match on Sunday.
The Selects won their first three games before falling 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday against the Rockets.
Gabby Arsenault, who allowed four goals in the five games she started, stopped all but one of the 30 shots she faced against the Rockets on Saturday.
Olivia Fitt gave the Selects a 1-0 lead in the first period, while the Rockets tied the game in the second period.
Arsenault recorded two straight shutouts on Thursday as the Selects posted identical 1-0 victories over the Central N.L. Icepak and the host Tri Pen Ice.
Megan Smith assisted on Baillie Griffin’s goal for the Selects against the Central N.L. Icepak and scored the only goal the Selects needed against the Tri Pen, N.L. Ice.
Madison Beson scored the Selects’ first three goals to help them improve their record to 3-0 on Friday by defeating the Western Wind from P.E.I. 4-1.
Fitt got the other goal for the Selects, who trailed 1-0 after the first period but took a 2-1 lead into the third period.
The Western Wind won the bronze medal match.
