New Glasgow Regional Police have charged a 16 year-old male with 28 counts of mischief,  graffiti offences following a lengthy investigation by New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit.

On April 17 at approximately 10:30 p.m. New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit conducted a search warrant on a Trenton residence and seized several items including paint and other offence-related material.

Damages as a result of the graffiti range in the thousands of dollars in both the towns of New Glasgow and Trenton.

The youth was charged with 28 counts of mischief , appeared in court April 18 and was later released on a judicial recognizance.

Graffiti is not the same as public art because it is painted on public or private property without the consent of the owner. While it may sound like an insignificant crime, graffiti has proved to cost property owners thousands of dollars in damages and has made the area to feel unsafe.

New Glasgow Regional Police advises that if you witness vandalism in progress call 9-1-1 to report it. Also if you notice graffiti that already exists you should call 902 752-1941 to report it.
