Rolling into derby season

Community Sports

It may not be quite the same as the 70s roller derby that many know from television, but roller derby is alive and well in Pictou County.

With all the hits, strategy and fast skating it’s hard to find something about the sport that doesn’t interest most.

Heading into the new summer season this year Highland District Derby team Kickin’ Vixens is ready to build on their successful season last year after taking home a third-place trophy from the annual Muddy River Jamboree. This year’s season starts off with a bout against Halifax’s Dockyard Brawlers at the Mayflower Curling club on May 25. This year’s only home bout will take place August 24 at Trenton Rink vs. the Dockyard Brawlers and Rebel Riot from Windsor, N.S.

Derby may have the big hits and everything else you love, and not only is it a great sport but is filled with great people.
