Kinsmen barbecue rolling out chicken

NEW GLASGOW – It was an early morning but a rewarding one for the annual Kinsmen barbecue in New Glasgow.

Numerous members of the Kinsmen Club of New Glasgow, Kinettes, K-40, Weeks Crushers, Weeks Major Midgets and members of the Kinsmen minor baseball program volunteered for the barbecue that was taking place through the morning on a portion of Terrace Street beside Carmichael Park.

The street was barricaded overnight so that the barbecue pits and associated materials could be set up.

Brian MacIntosh co-chaired the organizing committee for the barbecue with Ken Cunningham.

“It’s a great social for us,” MacIntosh said. “We work really hard but it’s rewarding to know we’re making a difference.”

Proceeds from the 1,700 chicken packages were devoted to the baseball program.

“We have nearly 400 registered,” MacIntosh said. “The money helps offset the cost for registration.”

Most of the meals are sold to businesses, and the number of packages prepared is up from last year. Some chicken orders remained for those wishing to purchase them.
