AdvoCruiser’s everywhere in the community

Arts & Entertainment Community Online First
Hannah Fraser, Georgia Murray and Burke Murray

This week we, Georgia and Burke, had the chance to meet a lot of new people and create new connections within our community of Pictou County. Hannah is on vacation, but she will be back next week to continue the adventure we get to call a job.

We started off the week of July 15 at the Trenton Funfest which, just as the name states, was quite fun. We had a great time horsing around with the horses, monster trucks and bouncy castles. Plus, there was live music and to cap it off a fireworks show. We also took a trip to the New Glasgow Farmers Market where we had the chance to speak with many different people who have started small businesses in Pictou County.

We will never ‘fore-get’ our journey at the Glen Lovat Golf Club where we popped in on two golf tournaments: the Kilted Golf Tournament, a part of Festival of the Tartans, and the East Pictou High Alumni Best Ball Tournament. At these tournaments we gave away “Advocate Community” T-shirts and swag for best ball.

On Saturday and Sunday, we were on hotdog duty at the 2019 Melmerby Triathlon, where we ‘relished’ the opportunity to cook hundreds of hotdogs over the two days. A big shout-out to all who competed and completed the 2019 Melmerby Triathlon.

We embraced all things Scottish by visiting the Festival of the Tartans, where we took in the Heavyweight Games and Highland Dancing Competition.

During the week of July 22, week we rocked Stellarton Homecoming, visiting multiple events throughout the weeklong festival. We also hit the other side of Pictou County, where we became real “River Johners”, during the River John Festival Days.

We didn’t have a chance to be ‘dragon’ along at the Race on the River dragon boat races but did see local businesses and foundations compete on the East River in downtown New Glasgow, alongside the amazing breast cancer teams.

In the upcoming weeks, catch us visiting business partners like Anchor Toyota, the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce and Pictou Lodge, as well as at the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee’s free, family friendly, all-ages event: Carlton’s Community Bash at the Sobeys Soccer Fields in Stellarton and multiple events throughout the county.
