MacDONALD, Helen Marjorie (Grant) – 91, of Central Caribou, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on May 18. Born in Pictou, Marjorie was a daughter of the late A.D. and Marion (Graham) Grant.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Lawrence; her sister, Bette Smith; sister-in-law, Emilie Grant and brothers-in-law, Doug Smith and George Coles. Marjorie is survived by her sister, Lillian Grant, Halifax; brother, Donald Grant, Ottawa; and seven children, Larry (Bev), Lyons Brook; Glenn, Bridgewater; Gregg (Marion), Waterside; Heather (Dale), Dartmouth; Edwin, Central Caribou; Lori (Grant) MacCarthy, Three Brooks; and Gina (Ian) Bain, West Branch. She has 11 grandchildren, Kim, Ian, Cyril, Rene, Krissy, Kelly, Leah, Kevan, Megan, Colin and Brian and four great-grandchildren, Elly, Ava, Dylan and Connor.
Marjorie was a member of the Caribou Women’s Institute for over 40 years. She had a great sense of humour and loved to play cards into the wee hours. She supplied the family with endless items of knitted wear, quilts and other crafty things.
It was a long time wish of Marjorie to donate her body to science and she has been entrusted to the care of the Department of Medical Neuroscience, Dalhousie University. Memorial service will be held at the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou at 2 p.m. today, May 25.
