STELLARTON – The Pictou County Albions and the Pictou County Royals each split double-headers at the Albion Athletic Field over the weekend in the Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League.
The Royals lost 11-0 and defeated the Noel Road Blue Jays 5-3 in their double-header on Sunday, while the Albions won 5-3 and lost 3-1 against the Hantsport Shamrocks in two games on Saturday and the Royals hosted the Noel Road Blue Jays in a double-header on Sunday at the Albion Athletic Field.
The Jays scored nine runs in the fifth inning to win their first game by the 10-run rule.
The Royals backed winning pitcher Josh Fushtey with three runs in the first inning and two in the second. Ryan Camp and Eric Pelton each had two hits.
The Albions scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit. Tommy Hayman, Trevor Whynott, Craig Cameron and Timmy Chaisson each had hits, while winning pitcher Cory Baird went all seven innings on eight hits.
Losing pitcher Colby Russell weathered 10 hits over seven innings in the second game, while Hayman and Cameron each had three hits for the Albions.
Previously, the Albions swept two games from the Kennetcook Braves on May 28 in Noel Road.
Chris Priest had three hits, while Whynott, Matt Noiles and Dennis Delorey each had two hits, in the Albions’ opening 12-1 romp.
Noiles and Cameron had three hits apiece, while Chaisson had two hits and drove in five runs as the Albions trounced the Braves 11-2 in the second game.
The wins at the time evened the Albions’ record at 2-2 after they were swept in a twin-bill on May 21 in Windsor.
The Knights edged the Albions 3-2 in eight innings in the first game and won 11-6 in the second game.
The Royals split two games with the Braves on May 21, losing 2-1 and winning 6-1.
The Royals lost 4-3 and won 5-3 at Windsor on May 28 against the Knights.
