STELLARTON – Firefighters were on scene for approximately an hour at a house fire.

The call came in around 10:30 a.m. according to Dwight Campbell, Stellarton fire chief.

“When we arrived smoke was rolling out of the basement.”

It took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control and it was contained to the basement.

Campbell says no one was harmed, but was not sure whether anyone was actually home when the fire began.

The firefighters fought the fire by spraying water through a hole in the side of the house as well as going through the basement.

“The smoke was very heavy, it was difficult to assess the damage,” he says noting there is significant smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
