PICTOU – The Pictou Lodge has another claim to fame, thanks to an article by the Food Network.
The Lodge was named number two in a list of Top 10 Wonderful Restaurant Wedding Venues in Canada. It was one of only two venues in the province on the list and was lauded for its access to fresh lobster.
“We got an inquiry about a month and a half ago that we had a referral and they (the representative for the Food Network) wanted some information on our wedding events. They were looking at destinations that also had a good culinary component,” explains Wes Surrett, general manager.
The Food Network wanted testimonials from brides, grooms and guests as well as wedding menus and photos.
“That was the last I heard about it until last week when I received an email with the link to the story,” he explains. “I was pleasantly surprised.”
Through the peak season, which runs mid-May through mid-October, the Lodge plays hosts to two weddings per week, he says.
The bridal parties have always had some sort of connection to the area, however, Surrett says in the last year he has noticed wedding parties with no ties to the area whatsoever and is hoping with this article they can continue to grow that out-of-area business.
“It’s great because if they are coming from away they make a vacation out of it and stay a few nights, travel around the area and that benefits us as well as the county.”
The 2017 wedding season already has 22 weddings booked, all Saturdays, but Surrett says they are looking into expanding their wedding day options as well as getting more into the surrounding months as much as possible.
“We are very pleased,” notes Surrett regarding the article. “It’s great for the Lodge and Pictou County in general.”
