McDOWELL, John Hugh – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Hugh McDowell, aka Johnny Paycheck, which occurred on Friday September 30 after a brief illness.
He was surrounded by family and the love of his many friends.
John was born and raised in Pictou and spent many years as payroll accountant at the Abercrombie Point pulp mill, a job he took great pride in. He always said people went to work to get paid and they should be paid right and on time. After retiring, John enjoyed reading and doing as little as possible.
John always approached life with zeal and an amazing sense of humour. He was often the life of the party, always had a good story to tell and a kind word for anyone in need.
He was a loving husband and father and a much-loved grandfather to his granddaughter. John will be dearly missed by his wife Melinda; daughter Cynthia (Paul) Outred and granddaughter Sophie Rose as well as by his sister Cathy (Donnie) Wright, brother Jim (Jean) McDowell, brother Scott (Katherine) McDowell, many nieces and nephews and by all of his good friends.
A wake will be held Saturday, October 8, at the Caribou fire hall on the Three Brooks Road from 4-9 p.m. with words of remembrance at 5 p.m. and reception to follow and all are welcome anytime.†
