NEW GLASGOW – The Life Shelter has closed its doors for good.

The Board of Directors and membership of The LifeCenter Church made the difficult decision to close The LifeCenter Church and The LifeShelter on Marsh Street on October 2.

Declining church membership, financial pressures and the recent resignation of Pastor Keith Hazzard were contributing reasons.  Hazzard served the LifeCenter for more than 13n years.

The LifeCenter, formerly known as Calvary Temple, has served the Pictou County area for many decades.  The LifeCenter embarked upon a program of community outreach over the last several years with the establishment of The LifeShelter program.  The LifeShelter provided a seasonal emergency winter homeless shelter and a year-round community breakfast program, which provided a hot breakfast at no cost two days a week.

The emergency winter shelter cared for approximately 30 different individuals each season for various lengths of stay. The Community Breakfast program has been well attended, serving 30-60 people on any given morning. The LifeShelter has had a faithful and dedicated group of 25+ community volunteers.
