PICTOU – The playoff season that follows an all-too-short regular season has arrived for local school soccer teams.
Pictou Academy senior varsity boys’ and girls’ teams have their playoff scheduled in place.
The Academy boys were to host Duncan MacMillan from Sheet Harbour on Tuesday in a game to determine seeding for the district playoffs.
If the Academy boys win, they will host the district playoffs in their division on Oct. 18.
The top six teams out of district playoffs will play in the regional championship on the October 22 weekend in Guysborough. The regional winner will host a qualifier the following weekend.
The Academy will play a game on Friday against the fourth-seeded team in Cumberland County, with the chance to face the Cumberland I team on Oct. 18. The top six teams will play for the regional championship in Colchester County Oct. 21 and 22.
Qualifiers are scheduled for Oct. 28 and 29 and provincial championships Nov. 4 and 5 in all divisions.
Division I, II and II boys are in Western Region, Division I and II girls in Capital and Division II girls in Highland.
Junior varsity boys and girls play for provincial championship in Northumberland Region.
In other high school sports, Amherst hosted the regional baseball playoffs last weekend, while the Northumberland Region will be host for the provincial championship on Friday and Saturday.
Amherst will host the Northumberland Region cross-country meet on Oct. 7, while the provincial championship will be on Oct. 24 in Yarmouth.
