PICTOU – Council approved, as one of its last acts as a council, the renaming of Arena Drive.
The renaming is something that has been in the works since September as it required an amendment to a bylaw regarding the renaming of current streets.
“At the last Hector Arena Commission meeting, we decided we wanted to re-name the street in recognition of one of our own, Bob Naylor,” explained Coun. Lynn Vigneault. “He lived and breathed (the arena) and went well beyond a job.”
Naylor was the rink manager for 13 years and took it upon himself to take care of maintenance and grooming around the rink.
Arena Drive, which runs in front of the Hector Arena between Prince and Patterson streets, will now be known as Naylor Drive.
Naylor, who is dealing with some health issues, could not make it to the council meeting for the presentation.
Joe Hawes, mayor, noted for the last two years, he has been handing out Tim Hortons cards to people who consistently do good things within the town and has been calling it the Bob Naylor award because of all of Naylor’s hard work and dedication toward cleaning up the town.
