Arts & Entertainment Community

Take two!

The Sunrise Film Festival continues November 11 and 12 where it left off in 2015 – with visitors and big names of the international film industry heading to Pictou County for ‘the friendly, relaxed festival’ on Nova Scotia’s North Shore.

One big-name star set to make an appearance is Armand Assante, star of “Hoffa” and”Judge Dredd,” among many other films and TV roles. Assante will be in attendance supporting the film, “The Red Maple Leaf”. Produced and directed by Frank D’Angelo, who will also attend the festival, the film also stars Mira Sorvino, James Caan and Robert Loggia and many others. Stay tuned for more news of big-name cast attendees.

From closer to home, Paul Kimball will be on hand to talk about his latest film “Exit Thread”. Kimball is one of Canada’s leading producer/directors and his film will screen as part of the festival.

Author Lesley Crewe and Terrilee Bulger from Nimbus Publishers, will be joined by producer Alan Collins to talk about making a film based on a book – in this case “Relative Happiness” in which all three were involved. Collins’ recent documentary, “My life so far,” will also screen at the festival. The film has just won the best Atlantic Documentary award at the Atlantic Film Festival.
Another highlight will be Ian Evans’ talk about his trek across Antarctica, which is the subject of the film “Lunatic” – also scheduled in the festival.

The Sunrise Film Festival aims to bring together film makers and audiences in relaxed surroundings and film makers from around the world are set to attend.

In a change from last year, everything will take place under the one roof of The Pictou Lodge and tickets are available for individual screenings, day-passes for Friday or Saturday including meals and popcorn at each film.
